At AEW Forbidden Door, Mercedes Mone and Stephanie Vaquer had an impressive singles match that caught the attention of both fans and critics. Although Vaquer lost the match, she soon signed with WWE. Recently, Mone claimed credit for helping Vaquer get noticed and join WWE. In response, Vaquer has now addressed Mone’s comments as well.

As noted above, Stephanie Vaquer signed with WWE shortly after her impressive match with Mercedes Mone at AEW Forbidden Door. She even competed twice during WWE’s live events in Mexico in July, with the process moving faster than anyone expected. In her weekly newsletter, Mone Mag, Mercedes Mone took credit for Vaquer’s WWE signing, reflecting on their experience together at Forbidden Door.

Mone shared that Vaquer arrived only an hour before the event, leaving them little time to plan their match. Despite the language barrier—Mone speaking English and Vaquer Spanish—and both being jet-lagged and hungry, they managed to deliver a great match. Mone felt this match played a part in Vaquer being signed by WWE just a few days later.

”Another time was with Stephanie Vaquer for AEW’s Forbidden Door. Stephanie flew in that day and got to the building maybe an hour before the doors opened. We just talked about the match a little where she speaks a whole different language (Spanish). That was so hard. I’m like, my God, we don’t get time to walk over our moves, we speak two different languages, and we’re both tired, jet lagged, and hungry, too. Yet, that also turned out to be such a great match. She was signed by the WWE days later. I’d like to think our match had a say in that!’

Stephanie Vaquer responded to Mercedes Mone’s comments on her Instagram story, sharing her side of the story about their match at AEW Forbidden Door. She explained that before the match, she had endured several days of constant travel, spending most of her time sleeping on planes, along with weeks of non-stop work. Vaquer also mentioned that she had gone many hours without eating.

Despite the challenging conditions, she expressed her appreciation for facing a talented opponent like Mone and acknowledged the positive experience. Vaquer concluded by emphasizing that consistent hard work eventually leads to rewards.

Before that match I had 4 days of just sleeping on planes and weeks of working daily, also many hours without eating, a great challenge with a great wrestler, she was really nice

“When you work hard for a long time it always brings rewards”

Stephanie Vaquer made her debut on the October 8 episode of WWE NXT, where she teamed up with Giulia to take on Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade. Vaquer has expressed a high regard for Mercedes Mone, and fans are pleased to see the mutual respect between the two wrestlers.
