WWE held the Bad Blood event at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, and fans were excited to see how the Hell in a Cell match would go. CM Punk and Drew McIntyre started the show with a level of violence that WWE hadn’t seen in years, and it was bloodier than anyone expected. McIntyre bled a lot during the bout, and the reaction backstage to this situation has been revealed.

The matchup between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre was the result of their ongoing feud that started at the Royal Rumble, and it was brutal from the very beginning. Both wrestlers used weapons like steel steps, wrenches, and a toolbox to hurt each other.

Early in the match, both competitors were bleeding heavily, with McIntyre frequently taunting Punk. The atmosphere was electric as they put everything into this incredibly brutal contest. In the end, CM Punk won by delivering a GTS to McIntyre, using a chain wrapped around his knee to make the hit more powerful. After the match, Drew McIntyre was ”banged up” and needed 16 stitches for a serious cut on his head, which definitely raised concerns among fans.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE didn’t actually plan for McIntyre to bleed, even though Punk had teased it on television. Meltzer reported that there was panic backstage and at ringside because McIntyre was bleeding heavily, and they were concerned about how bad the injury was. At first, they considered having the doctor enter the cage to stop the bleeding, but ultimately decided against it since it was a Hell in a Cell match.

Instead, they planned to wipe the blood off McIntyre with a towel. McIntyre took charge, saying he would signal if he felt dizzy, at which point they would go straight to the finish of the match. Since McIntyre showed no signs of a concussion, they were able to finish the match as originally planned.

Drew McIntyre ended up missing this past week’s episode of Monday Night RAW in St. Louis, Missouri as he needed to recuperate from the damage he suffered during the Hell in a Cell match. Nonetheless, The Scottish Warrior certainly gained the respect and admiration of many for his performance at Hell in a Cell, so it remains to be seen what WWE will have planned for him next once he returns.
