Former WWE Champion Big E has been sidelined for over a year after suffering a devastating neck injury, and while there’s been plenty of speculation about his return, the path forward remains uncertain. New reports have shed light on WWE’s potential plans for Big E, but his in-ring future largely depends on his ongoing recovery.

Big E has been out of action since the March 11, 2022 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, where he sustained a serious neck injury during a tag team match against Ridge Holland and Sheamus. The injury occurred when Big E took a belly-to-belly suplex from Holland outside the ring, but he landed awkwardly on his head and neck. The impact caused fractures to his C1 and C6 vertebrae, leading to immediate medical attention. Thankfully, despite the severity of the injury, surgery was not required. However, the recovery process has cast uncertainty over his future in the ring.

Recently, WKRD Wrestling suggested potential plans for Big E’s return, hinting at a New Day reunion, particularly with Xavier Woods teasing a heel turn. The storyline could see Big E join forces with Woods and Kofi Kingston if he gets medically cleared to return, which would mark a huge moment for the beloved group.

However, despite the swirling rumors, Big E clarified that any return to the ring is still about three to six months away. Speaking on his recovery process, Big E explained:

“Yeah. More than anything, I’m just taking every day as it comes. I know that sounds like a cliché. But I get scans again in another three to six months, and if they look great and the doctors say it’s healthy for me to go back, then that’s something where we’ll sit down and talk about it. But I try not to spend too much time worrying about things I can’t control.”

While WWE may have plans in mind, Big E emphasized that there is no immediate timeline for his return. He remains focused on his health and taking the necessary time to heal, noting that it’s still too early to make any definitive decisions. Big E added:

“It’s nice to know that if I get the opportunity to get back in the ring, and I can do it healthily, then let’s do that. Let’s attack it fully. But if not, I know exactly what I want to do, and I’m excited about that path too.”

This update means fans should temper their expectations for an immediate return, despite any rumors circulating on social media. For now, Big E is prioritizing his health, with a potential return to wrestling still months away, contingent on upcoming neck scans.
