Kevin Owens has built his reputation in WWE by taking on some of the top stars, and his recent conflict with Cody Rhodes has added to the tension. Things reached a breaking point when Owens attacked Rhodes after the Bad Blood event last week, an assault that caught many by surprise.
WWE Bad Blood 2024 was full of memorable moments, including Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns teaming up to defeat Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu, with unexpected help from a returning Jimmy Uso. The night got even more shocking with the return of The Rock.
After the event, fan footage captured a heated argument between Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes in the parking lot. What started as a verbal confrontation quickly turned physical when Owens punched Rhodes, knocking him down. Owens then continued his attack, even trying to throw a garbage can at Cody while he was on the ground.
On the Backstage Pass show, during a Q&A session with WrestleVotes, Joe Lowry talked about Kevin Owens’ recent heel turn and the fan-captured footage that exposed it. WrestleVotes added an interesting detail about how secretive the whole event was.
According to WrestleVotes, nobody in the production team knew about the incident. There were no WWE cameras, lighting, or other typical setups, which made it stand out. He even suggested that the fan who filmed the altercation might have been planted to make sure the moment was captured. The secrecy was so tight that only Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens, and a few members of the creative team were in on it, allowing them to keep the plan under wraps.
“Nobody in production had any clue, because there were no cameras, no lighting, nothing of that nature, so it was quite different, going down this road. I wouldn’t be surprised if the fan that caught this was a plant just to make sure that they got what they wanted. None of this was spoken to me or that I heard about even in the slightest. I’m not even sure how many people knew this was going to happen apart from Cody, Kevin Owens, and maybe a few creative people who designed the idea. But when you have a situation where not many people outside know about it, you can keep it quiet and it came off great.”
We have also reported that WWE was very pleased with how the altercation between Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes played out after WWE Bad Blood. The unexpected nature of the incident created a lot of buzz, which WWE saw as a big positive. The fact that Rhodes looked visibly “roughed up” after the confrontation added to the authenticity and realism, something WWE really valued in making the moment feel impactful and believable.
Triple H has already commented on Kevin Owens’ attack on Cody Rhodes, stating, “We are aware of the incident outside of the arena last night between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens. The matter will be dealt with internally.” With this being addressed, fans will have to wait and see how WWE develops their storyline in the coming weeks. It’s expected that Owens will provide a clear reason for his actions as the storyline unfolds.
