RVD is regarded as one of the all-time greats and he was involved in numerous memorable storylines during his time in WWE. There was a time where fans felt he and Stephanie McMahon were going to engage in a romantic storyline but it never happened and now RVD has revealed why WWE scrapped plans for their angle.

In 2001, Rob Van Dam joined WWE and teamed up with his former ECW colleague Tommy Dreamer as part of the ongoing Invasion storyline. During this time, Stephanie McMahon was playing the role of the on-screen owner of ECW, which led to RVD and McMahon working together in various segments.

During his first full-time run with WWE from 2001 to 2007, Van Dam became a popular star. He married Katie Forbes in 2021 and was previously married to Sonia Delbeck from 1998 to 2018. While speaking on the Cheap Heat Productions Podcast, Van Dam revealed that his ex-wife was quite insecure about his career.

RVD’s ex-wife strongly opposed the idea of him pursuing a romantic storyline with Stephanie McMahon. Van Dam prioritized his marriage and chose not to go through with the angle, valuing his relationship over his work in wrestling.

“They wanted to do a romantic angle with me and Stephanie McMahon, and my shoot wife was like the most insecure person on the planet. She hated it, totally didn’t trust me being on the road already, didn’t trust anyone I worked with. It was one of those horror stories which a lot of people can relate to, and I prioritized in trying to make my marriage work above my job.”

As for RVD, he recently alerted the FBI about a dangerous online stalker who was obsessed with him and Katie Forbes. Nevertheless, fans will always wonder just how WWE would have executed his romance storyline with Stephanie McMahon, but it will always remain a ‘what if?’ scenario now.
