The Bad Blood Premium Live Event was an unforgettable night for fans, filled with standout matches and several surprising returns. The event delivered excitement and drama, but there were already a lot of discussions about the main event of the show. Many expected Drew McIntyre and CM Punk to main event the show but it didn’t happen and the real reason for that has been revealed.
Originally, the CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre Hell in a Cell match was rumored to headline the Bad Blood Premium Live Event. However, reports from last week indicated that the main event focus shifted to the tag team match featuring Roman Reigns and Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes taking on Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu, which ultimately turned out to be the final match on the card.
Drew McIntyre and CM Punk opened the show with their Hell in a Cell match and absolutely tore the house down in a brutal display of violence that was not seen in WWE for several years. Punk would win the match and this made fans question why they didn’t main event the show to begin with.
While speaking on Fightful Select’s Q&A podcast, the real reason CM Punk and Drew McIntyre didn’t main event Bad Blood was due to The Rock’s involvement in the final match. Once The Rock was confirmed to be part of the main event, there was no chance of it being placed elsewhere on the card.
About a month ago, discussions had taken place to have CM Punk and Drew McIntyre headline the event. However, once the tag team match featuring Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns was filmed, it became clear that this match would close the show for obvious reasons.
“Also, some discussion on how the main event was decided and all that. It was decided because The Rock was involved with that main event. They weren’t going to have that go on anywhere else on the show. About a month ago they have discussed and even planned for CM Punk and Drew McIntyre to headline the show. By the time they filmed Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, they had decided that was going to main event the show for obvious reasons.”
The Rock’s appearance at the very end of Bad Blood certainly led to a lot of intrigue as it was made evident he would be feuding with Cody Rhodes again in the future, but fans still felt McIntyre and Punk should have been the main event, especially after their incredible performance in the Hell in a Cell match.
