WWE Hall of Famer and Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle is set to have his remarkable story brought to the big screen.

Angle, who famously won the 1996 Olympic gold medal in freestyle wrestling despite competing with a broken neck, recently shared the exciting news during an interview on WFAN with Danielle McCartan.

“I got a movie going on,” Angle revealed. “Really proud of this. It’s a really great story. It’s about a kid from the streets of Pittsburgh who overcomes all these obstacles, including a broken neck, to win the Olympic gold medal. It’s only about my Olympic career, it’s not about my pro wrestling career.”

The movie will be directed by Ian and Eshom Nelms, known for their work on Fatman with Mel Gibson and Waffle Street with Danny Glover. Angle shared his excitement about the film, comparing it to iconic sports dramas like Rocky, The Fighter, and Iron Claw.

“I’m really excited about it. I’m going to be working behind the scenes for the first time. I won’t be in front of the camera. I’m really excited for the world to see it. We want to release it in theaters. It’s going to be a lot of fun for me. It’s probably the most excited I’ve been since the Olympics.”

Angle also provided an update on the project’s progress, revealing that the script has been completed, and the team is currently seeking investors. Once that phase is complete, the next step will be casting, which Angle hinted is already in motion.

“We just got the script done. We’re shopping for investors, which shouldn’t be a problem. After that, we pick the cast. This is going to happen probably in the next three months. We have a few (casting candidates), I can’t say any names, but we have a few good names we’re thinking about.”

This biopic will focus exclusively on Angle’s Olympic journey, shining a spotlight on his incredible perseverance and determination to achieve his dream despite life-threatening injuries. While his pro wrestling career will not be part of the film’s narrative, Angle’s triumph in the Olympics remains an inspiring story that continues to resonate with fans worldwide.
