The October 7 WWE RAW was a historic night for the company, because it saw the red brand get an hour trimmed off of it. Now a two-hour program, WWE RAW was even more packed full of big moments, including Sami Zayn finally getting his WWE World Heavyweight Championship match against GUNTHER.

Sami Zayn has been chasing GUNTHER for weeks, but the Ring General tried his best not to grant that match. In the end, The Underdog From the Underground got his title match in Saint Louis.

Samantha Irvin gave this match a big-fight feel with her incredible intros. She did the same with the IC Title match previously in the night, which Jey Uso ended up winning in clean fashion.

Sami Zayn seized the advantage early with his quickness, but GUNTHER quickly shifted the momentum with his immense strength, taking control of the match. The contest was allotted twenty minutes, which were split with a few commercial breaks.

While Sami Zayn had his moments of offense, he couldn’t sustain the momentum for long as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion quickly regained control. Throughout the match, Zayn’s trademark determination remained evident.

Zayn managed to deliver some impactful moves, including an exploder suplex into the barricade followed by a Helluva Kick. However, since it took place outside the ring, he couldn’t go for a pinfall. He was forced to break up the referee’s ten-count after carrying GUNTHER back into the ring.

Zayn lined up another Helluva Kick, which he connected with, but GUNTHER responded with a brutal lariat after Zayn went for another finisher. Zayn countered a powerbomb into a roll-up pin, but GUNTHER quickly escaped. GUNTHER then nailed a powerbomb, which got a near fall.

As the match neared its final moments, the St. Louis crowd was on its feet, the excitement building as time ran out in the show’s two-hour window. GUNTHER delivered another powerbomb, but Zayn kicked out at one. Then GUNTHER locked in a sleeper hold, and he never released it. That was the beginning of the end, as the referee soon called for the bell, awarding GUNTHER the victory. Then Cody Rhodes came out to meet his Crown Jewel opponent face to face.

We will have to see how Sami Zayn and GUNTHER continue from here, because now the Ring General has Crown Jewel in his sights. They certainly brought a big match to fans this week on the red brand.
