Goldberg’s status as a free agent following the expiration of his WWE contract obviously gave rise to lots of discussions about a possible retirement match. No one could have expected him to return at Bad Blood this week and after a confrontation with GUNTHER, there is now speculation about Goldberg possibly competing again in WWE.
During the Bad Blood Premium Live Event, a confrontation took place between WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER and Goldberg. The two faced off when GUNTHER insulted Goldberg, who was sitting in the crowd with his family. GUNTHER called Goldberg a “one-trick pony,” trying to provoke him into a fight.
While Goldberg tried to respond to the challenge, security intervened to keep him from entering the ring. Meanwhile, Sami Zayn seized the moment to rush at GUNTHER, creating more tension heading into the next episode of Monday Night Raw.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer speculated about Goldberg’s future match after his return at Bad Blood and his confrontation with GUNTHER. He questioned why they would create such a big moment if it didn’t lead to a match, saying it wouldn’t make sense without a follow-up.
Meltzer expected that more information would come soon and mentioned the possibility of the match happening at WrestleMania. However, he also acknowledged that it could take place at the Royal Rumble or another event. He noted that while GUNTHER was set to face Cody, there was a chance for a storyline where Sami Zayn could win with Goldberg’s help. Meltzer stated that it felt like they were building towards a match at some point.
“Why would they do the angle if they aren’t going to do the match. Why would you do a big thing like that and not do the match. I certainly though they were going to do it. We will know in a couple of days. Maybe they will do it at Mania. You know what I mean? They are bringing everyone else back. They could also say they don’t need it at Mania and they could do it at Royal Rumble or something. They could do it anytime. It’s actually a Saudi match but GUNTHER is facing Cody, unless Sami wins. Maybe Sami wins with Goldberg’s help? GUNTHER will Goldberg in Saudi, I don’t know. It sure felt like they were doing a match at some point.”
Even Triple H hinted at the possibility of Goldberg competing again in WWE following Bad Blood. Therefore, we’ll have to wait and see whether the WWE Hall of Famer will end up making his in-ring return soon enough, as Goldberg hasn’t competed in a WWE match since his bout against Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2022.
