WWE is gearing up for Bad Blood in Atlanta’s State Farm Arena on October 5, but the October 4 WWE SmackDown also included some big matches. It appears that WWE may make that kind of thing a trend from now on.
The October 4 WWE SmackDown in the Bridgestone Arena kicked off with AJ Styles’ return to the ring. That was followed by setting up a match against Carmelo Hayes, one that many would consider a dream match. Although AJ Styles used an injury angle to stop the match early, there were still plenty of other big matches to capture attention.
Sean Ross Sapp reported on Fightful Select that SmackDown was “wrestling-heavy last night, which we’re told is something that will likely become common surrounding PLE shows.”
WWE has changed the way they go about things, and promoting events is one of those things that has been altered. It appears that the company is going to build a lot of hype around premium live events with even more in-ring action instead of stories with longer segments.
We will have to see what WWE books in the future, but this week’s SmackDown was certainly a big show. With the dumpster match between Michin and Chelsea Green going down along with the triple threat ladder match main event, there were certainly a lot of big matches in Nashville.
