Kayla Braxton, who joined WWE in 2016, ended her time with the company after the June 28th episode of Friday Night SmackDown. She made a lot of memories there, especially with Paul Heyman. With that said, she has now revealed her initial frustrations with Heyman.
After the June 28th edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Cody Rhodes delivered a heartfelt tribute to Kayla Braxton as she wrapped up her remarkable eight-year tenure with WWE. Since her departure, Braxton has remained active, diving into various new ventures and keeping herself engaged with multiple projects.
There is no doubt that Braxton’s interesting relationship with Paul Heyman had contributed to her popularity in WWE. While speaking during an interview with Denise Salcedo, Kayla Braxton talked about her love for horror movies, why she left WWE, and more.
Braxton also shared her thoughts on working with Paul Heyman, which became a key part of her later time in WWE. At first, Braxton didn’t like Heyman when he joined her on Talking Smack. She said their partnership started naturally during the pandemic, especially when WWE used the Thunderdome.
Braxton didn’t know Heyman well and found him loud and overbearing, feeling like he was taking over her time on the show. But as they worked together more, she came to respect him and credited Heyman for helping her grow as a broadcaster, saying she wouldn’t have reached her level without him.
“Yeah, probably one of the most—if not the most—brilliant mind in wrestling. Paul’s been around forever, for like many different leaderships and eras of wrestling. That really happened very organically back during the Thunderdome era, during the pandemic, when they put us together on Talking Smack.
So we had the panel show. I didn’t really know Paul, hadn’t worked with Paul that much at the time. I just knew that this really big, loud man was on my kickoff show all of a sudden, taking up all my airtime. I was getting really frustrated with him, but then the more I got to work with him…man, I would not have become the broadcaster I had become if it weren’t for Paul Heyman.”
We have also reported that WWE has left the door open for Braxton to return to the company one day. Only time will tell what’s next in store for Braxton, but she will always be grateful for her time in WWE, especially getting to work with Paul Heyman.
