AJ Styles’ last WWE appearance was at the Clash at the Castle Premium Live Event but that changed after he came back during SmackDown this week. There was a lot going on with Styles during the show, and now the creative mind behind his angle has been revealed.
During the October 4th edition of Friday Night SmackDown, AJ Styles kicked off the show and shared how much he missed the fans and said, “It’s only fitting that I’m here in Nashville, Tennessee tonight. This is where everything began for me,” as he was referring to his start in TNA. Styles explained that he wasn’t there to focus on the past, but to rebuild his legacy.
He also mentioned that many wrestlers backstage need to remember that this is “the house that AJ Styles built.” Soon after, Carmelo Hayes came out, and they had some back-and-forth about LA Knight, with Carmelo saying he wanted to go after the U.S. Title. Styles tried to give him some advice, but Hayes wasn’t interested in listening to “quitters.”
Styles and Hayes would eventually square off against each other in a match that ended prematurely after Styles seemingly suffered an injury and this worried fans in a big way as well.
According to a report by Fightful Select, Chad Barbash was listed as the writer for the AJ Styles’ promo for this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, which may not be surprising as Barbash has been involved in numerous top angles on the show.
We have already reported that AJ Styles is not legitimately injured, and it was all part of the storyline. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether he will take some time off to sell the injury, as fans are clearly invested in The Phenomenal One’s storyline already.
