With CM Punk’s connection to WWE NXT growing stronger, the wrestling icon recently entertained the idea of forming a new faction. Known for leading the Straight Edge Society from 2009 to 2010, Punk was joined by Luke Gallows, Joey Mercury, and Serena during his time as the leader of the cult-like group.

In a recent interview with KTSM, Punk was asked about the possibility of reviving the faction, but with a twist for NXT. While he was open to the idea, Punk indicated that it wouldn’t be a complete rehash of the Straight Edge Society.

“I don’t want to beat a dead horse, so it would have to be some sort of a variation on the Straight Edge Society,” Punk shared. “Maybe something a little bit similar, maybe named different.”

When asked who he’d like to bring into a new faction, Punk was clear about his top choice: “I think the number one with a bullet to be with me in some form of a stable would be Oba [Femi].”

Oba Femi, the current NXT North American Champion, signed with WWE in December 2021 and has quickly risen through the ranks. Punk’s endorsement suggests that Femi could be a valuable addition to any future faction led by the Straight Edge Superstar.

Beyond speculation about the faction, Punk also touched on the significance of NXT in WWE’s ecosystem. Notably, Shawn Michaels has floated the idea that Punk could one day succeed him as the person in charge of NXT, a testament to Punk’s influence and experience in the industry.
