Charlotte Flair’s injury in December 2023 on WWE SmackDown during her match with Asuka was a turning point for the multi-time Women’s Champion. Since then, she has been out of the ring and has had time to reflect on her recovery process and the mental challenges it presented.
Speaking on the Forever Young Podcast, Flair opened up about how devastating the injury initially was for her. “When it first happened, I thought my life was over,” Flair admitted, emphasizing the emotional toll it took on her. “It was a perfect storm. My husband had just come back to the company, and I was supposed to be right there beside him, but instead, I was sidelined.”
She shared that being forced to take time away from wrestling gave her a rare opportunity to self-reflect on her career and where she wanted to go next. ‘I just kept telling myself that I’m going to come back the best version of The Queen,” Flair said. “You never want to be taken out of action due to injury, but maybe I wouldn’t have taken a break had this not happened.”
While Flair is known for her athleticism and physical toughness, the injury forced her to reevaluate how much she relied on those attributes. “I’ve always been proud of my toughness, and this injury made me question that,” she explained. “Mentally, it’s been difficult to adjust to not feeling 100%. But at the same time, it’s been a blessing because I’ve been able to see the bigger picture.”
Flair went on to describe how the experience has left her feeling more vulnerable than ever before. However, despite the struggles, she is optimistic about her return to the ring. “I know in the long run, this break will make me better,” Flair said, signaling that she is eager to get back to WWE, stronger and more determined than ever.
As Flair continues her recovery, fans eagerly await the return of “The Queen” to WWE. Her time away has given her new perspective and motivation, and when she steps back into the ring, it’s clear she’ll do so with renewed fire.
