Kenny Omega has been out of action for nearly a year due to diverticulitis, which required emergency surgery. This health issue forced him to step back from wrestling and put his plans on hold. However, it now seems he is looking towards a possible return match.
Kenny Omega made his first television appearance since December on the May 1 episode of AEW Dynamite, where he shared updates about his recovery. Sadly, his return was short-lived as he was attacked by The Elite, which included The Young Bucks, Jack Perry, and Kazuchika Okada, prompting him to exit the show swiftly.
After this incident, Omega’s close friend and longtime tag team partner, Kota Ibushi, announced that Omega has started training at his facility in Japan. Additionally, Omega has been taking part in rigorous boxing training.
It is to be noted that Kenny Omega has already been confirmed for an appearance for Wrestle Dynasty on January 5, 2025, at the iconic Tokyo Dome in Japan and fans wondered what he would do at the show.
While speaking to NJPW in a recent interview, Kenny Omega made it clear that he wants revenge against the Young Bucks and hopes to team up with Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Dynasty.
Omega’s main goal is to return to wrestling first. After that, he wants to face the Bucks to settle their rivalry. He mentioned how important it is to do it the right way this time. He recalled their first match together, which was for the championship, and how both had a lot on the line in their 2019 match.
Now that he and Tanahashi are on the same side, Omega wants to team up with him in their next match. He acknowledged that he has played the bad guy in the past, especially in AEW, where he cheated to win the AEW title. Omega wants to be remembered positively by young fans, so if he fights Tanahashi again, he prefers to do it as his partner.
“First priority is making my return, but if I can come back, I do want to face the Bucks. I want revenge, but more importantly, I want to do it the right way. The first time Tanahashi and I wrestled, it was for the belt, and then in 2019 it was a lot on the line for the both of us. Now, with the two of us aligned, next time we wrestle, I’d want to do it together. I’ve been a bad guy for a lot of my time, especially in AEW. I cheated to win the AEW title. I don’t want that to be the memory of myself that stays with young fans. If Tanahashi and I meet in that ring again, I’d want to do it as his partner.”
Kota Ibushi already teased his return to AEW alongside Kenny Omega as well. Therefore, we will have to wait and see whether The Best Bout Machine will be able to make his in-ring return at Wrestle Dynasty next year, as fans would love to see that happen.
