CM Punk’s return at the Survivor Series Premium Live Event 2023 sent shockwaves across the world of professional wrestling thanks to its sheer electricity and now Punk has revealed the original plans for his return last year.
CM Punk’s return to WWE was a major event that marked a significant change in the wrestling landscape. Since then, The Second City Saint has become an important part of WWE, integrating himself into its current storylines and contributing to the excitement about the company’s future direction.
While speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast, CM Punk revealed that the original plans for his WWE return were intended for the Royal Rumble. He mentioned that when discussions began, it was expected that he would return for the Rumble, which is a typical event for returns.
However, being creative, he felt that this was a standard approach used for everyone. He then pointed out that Survivor Series, scheduled to take place in Chicago, was just three days away, framing it as a unique opportunity.
“When we first started talking, it was just like, ‘Okay, you know the typical Rumble. You come back for the Rumble, right?’ But me being the creative that I am, I was immediately just like, ‘Yeah, I get it, but that’s what you do. That’s what you do with everybody; everybody gets that.’ And then it was a gift: Survivor Series is in Chicago, and it’s just in three days.”
We have also reported on CM Punk’s potential plans for Survivor Series this year. Nevertheless, fans have been happy with The Second City Saint’s run in WWE so far and that’s all that matters to them at the moment.
