CM Punk might be back in WWE, but some things never change! The legendary wrestler, who was a special guest referee for the NXT Championship match between Trick Williams and Ethan Page on WWE NXT, is still embracing his signature mix of humor and self-deprecation.

After the October 1 episode of WWE NXT, Roxanne Perez took to social media to share a playful photo with Punk. Perez, who successfully retained her NXT Women’s Championship by defeating Giulia, posed with Punk backstage. In the photo, Punk appears visibly annoyed, a comedic nod to their backstage interaction.

But it was Punk’s caption that stole the show. He cheekily commented, “I’m hurt, old, tired, and I work with children.” This line is a direct reference to his infamous post-AEW All Out 2022 presser, where he said the same thing, setting off a chain of events that led to a backstage brawl with Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks. Fast forward nearly a year later, Punk found himself in hot water once again, this time getting into another fight with Jack Perry, which ultimately led to his firing from AEW.

It’s clear that Punk hasn’t lost his sense of humor about the situation, even as he’s transitioned back into the WWE fold. While his past in AEW was marred by controversy, Punk’s return to WWE NXT shows that he’s still a major force in the wrestling world—even if he’s not shy about poking fun at himself.
