Tony Khan Open to Reviving Iconic ‘War of the Worlds’ Concept for Future AEW & NJPW Events

AEW and NJPW have built a lot of momentum toward their collaborative pay-per-view, Forbidden Door and that’s not all as AEW has worked with other promotions such as STARDOM and CMLL. With that said, Tony Khan has now addressed bringing back a very unique event.

Throughout the 2010s, New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor collaborated to host many War of the Worlds and Global Wars events. These shows allowed talent from both promotions to compete together on a significant domestic platform. The last War of the Worlds event took place in May 2019 and fans had given up hope of the event ever coming back.

In a recent interview with The Rocker Morning Show, Khan mentioned that he would love to bring back the War of the Worlds idea, highlighting its potential. He noted that AEW has established a strong partnership with New Japan Pro Wrestling through events like Forbidden Door and Wrestle Dynasty in Japan.

Khan gave emphasis to the importance of expanding collaborations with international wrestling promotions, including lucha libre in Mexico, and how these partnerships have helped grow the wrestling business globally.

”Yeah, I’d love to do that. That’s absolutely something we’re interested in. The War Of The Worlds concept, there’s definitely something to it. We’ve built something really special with Forbidden Door coming to North America and now expanding to Europe and also with AEW going over to Japan to compete at Wrestle Dynasty. We’ve got a great collaboration with New Japan, I’d love to expand it. You’re absolutely right, a few years ago, we hadn’t started working together and it’s kind of amazing how much in the past few years that AEW has been able to do in terms of collaborating with international wrestling promotions like New Japan and lucha libre in Mexico and really growing the business overseas and teaming up with the best international wrestling promotions and putting on these great matches.”

We will have to wait and see when Tony Khan will decide to bring back the ‘War of The Worlds’ concept for future events as fans would more than love to see the best in the world face off against each other for the first time since 2019.
