Last year saw the integration of WWE and UFC into the TKO umbrella, marking a significant shift in the landscape of sports entertainment. UFC stars aren’t the only people who want to work in WWE as it appears that even gold medal boxer Delicious Orie received a WWE offer during the Paris Olympics.

Delicious Orie, who won gold medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the 2023 European Games, has sparked speculation about a potential move to professional wrestling. He recently visited the WWE Performance Center after attending a WWE NXT taping, where he met Shawn Michaels and other WWE staff.

While speaking to Sky Sports, Delicious Orie shared that he received a message from WWE on Instagram during his Olympic journey, initially mistaking it for a scam. During his visit to the Performance Center, he mentioned that he already has a finishing move in mind called the “Delicious Haymaker” and is incorporating boxing techniques into his wrestling style. He also participated in promo work, which he found to be a refreshing challenge compared to his boxing experience.

Orie described the process as an eye-opener, revealing the importance of being confident in front of the camera. Orie noted that in wrestling, you can either be an exaggerated version of yourself or adopt a different persona, known as a “heel” or “babyface.” He expressed interest in portraying an exaggerated version of himself, while also being open to trying out the heel persona.

“I actually got a message on Instagram during the Olympics. Initially I just thought it was one of those messages, I thought it was just a scam. Why would the real thing message you?

“I do have a finisher [a finishing move], it’s called the ‘Delicious Haymaker’. I’ve also got to implement boxing in my wrestling moves!

“We also did the promo work, which I found amazing. Completely different to what I’m used to. What I’ve experienced was huge that I can take away and let boxers know that it’s really important to be able to show yourself to the camera, be confident in front of the camera.

“These wrestlers are so confident in front of the camera. It was a mind-opener for me. I got to work on an exaggerated version of me. There’s two ways you can approach it with wrestling at that level, you either are an exaggerated version of yourself or you’re a different person. What they call it is ‘a heel’ or ‘a babyface’. I think a babyface is probably the exaggerated version of Delicious but I can definitely give heel a go with a big smile on my face. It was fun.”

Regarding his future, Orie is considering offers from both boxing and WWE. He emphasized the significance of this decision, acknowledging its potential impact on his career and life. He is carefully weighing the pros and cons of each opportunity, ensuring that he makes a choice that he can fully commit to without regrets. As he transitions from amateur boxing to the world of entertainment, he embraces his identity as an entertainer, emphasizing that his name, Delicious, reflects his desire to captivate audiences.

“It’s massive worldwide, WWE is the biggest entity in the sports industry. I am now at the stage where I have spoken with all the [boxing] promoters, I got to experience the WWE life and lifestyle and I am open to every single one of them [offers]. I’m in the process of getting all the offers on the table. Weigh up the pros and cons of each and then I’ll make my decision.

It’s not something I’ll take lightly. This decision will have an impact and influence on my whole career and the trajectory of my whole life. And also, whatever decision I pick, it’s going to be something I will take with 100 per cent full commitment and full sacrifice.

So I need to make sure that I make a decision and never live a life with regret. Now I’m moving away from the amateur style of boxing, I am now an entertainer, whether it’s a professional boxer or a wrestler. My name’s Delicious for God’s sake, I’ve got to be some sort of entertainer!”

Even the likes of UFC star Paddy Pimblett are open to joining WWE one day. Nevertheless, only time will tell whether Delicious Orie will end up stepping foot inside a WWE ring and becoming a WWE Superstar, as fans would love to see it happen.
