The long-awaited Vince McMahon documentary has finally premiered on Netflix, diving into the numerous scandals and controversies surrounding the WWE chairman, including the allegations against him. Following the documentary’s release, a former WWE writer criticized both McMahon and AEW’s Tony Khan for seeking their fathers’ approval throughout their careers.
In the Netflix docuseries about Vince McMahon, the tension between McMahon and his father is a recurring theme, raising questions about whether Vince McMahon spent his life trying to gain his father’s approval.
Former WWE head writer Vince Russo commented on this dynamic on Sportkseeda Wrestlingbinge, pointing out that many wrestling promoters share a similar need to prove themselves to their fathers. He mentioned Vince McMahon, Dixie Carter, and Tony Khan as examples of people trying to gain their fathers’ validation in the wrestling world and criticized them for the same, as he called them insecure and delicate human beings getting involved in the wrong business.
“That’s an ongoing theme in wrestling. You know, Vince McMahon wanting to prove himself to his father. Shane McMahon wanting to prove himself to Vince McMahon. Dixie Carter wanting to prove herself to her father. Tony Khan… Like it’s an ongoing theme. It just seems like just very, I don’t know bro, just very insecure and delicate human beings for some reason getting involved in the wrong business.”
Russo also talked about his personal experience, noting that he never faced these issues because of the strong relationship he had with his own father. He expressed that the wrestling business may not be the right place to resolve such emotional challenges, suggesting that working harder in this industry wouldn’t necessarily address these deeper personal struggles.
“Seriously like if that is what you are setting out to prove, I don’t think the wrestling business is the place to prove it bro.”
Some also believe that Vince McMahon exposed himself in the Netflix documentary. McMahon also allegedly hired a hitman to do his dirty work, but a lot of revelations in the documentary continue to be a topic of discussion even now. Therefore, fans are more than aware of just how many issues Vince McMahon truly had.
