Miro made a strong impact when he joined AEW in 2020, even winning the TNT Championship early in his run. However, his momentum in the company has slowed down recently. He reportedly asked for his release from AEW recently, and his current status with the company has been revealed.
At AEW’s World’s End event last year, Miro scored a big win over Andrade El Idolo, with CJ Perry unexpectedly turning on Andrade during the match. Despite this major moment, Miro has been absent from AEW TV, raising questions about his status in the company.
Miro originally signed a two-year deal with AEW, set to end in spring 2022, but he extended it until spring 2026. However, creative disagreements have led Miro to ask for his release, as he continues to be off TV. In fact, several ideas for Miro’s return were rejected.
While speaking on Fightful Select’s Q&A podcast, Sean Ross Sapp provided an update on Miro’s request for a release from AEW, stating that there is no confirmation Miro has received the release yet. According to Sapp, there has been no indication that Miro’s request has been granted, despite him asking for it.
“I haven’t heard that he has gotten it as of yet. I have been given no indication that he got that release even though he asked for it.”
We have also reported the likelihood of WWE buying out Miro’s AEW contract. With uncertainty surrounding Miro’s future in AEW, fans are left wondering if the company will grant him his release. Many believe Miro would be better off pursuing opportunities outside of AEW at this point, so only time will tell if AEW will finally grant him his release.
