ormer WWE Superstar Layla, who held both the Divas and Women’s Championships during her nine-year tenure with the company, recently reflected on her experiences in WWE, particularly the bikini contests she participated in during her early career.
During her appearance on They Made Their Way To The Ring, Layla didn’t hold back about how much she disliked those moments. The contests, which were a staple of WWE programming at the time, often placed the women in uncomfortable situations, and Layla admitted that she “despised” being a part of them.
“I actually didn’t like the bikini — I’ll be honest with you, I despised — I was so happy when those bikini contest things went away because it was just — honestly, it was very uncomfortable when I look back. It’s really, really, ugh. But, at that time, that’s what we were offered and I still feel like we did the best with what we were given,” Layla shared.
She also took a moment to praise how much women’s wrestling has evolved in WWE, noting that the women of today no longer have to participate in those types of contests. “The girls should be lucky that they don’t have to do that to be honest with you,” Layla laughed.
Despite her discomfort with those early contests, Layla still looks back fondly on her career. In the same interview, she expressed interest in reuniting with her former tag team partner, Michelle McCool, to possibly be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as LayCool.
