Darby Allin, known for his toughness and ability to withstand extreme pain, has been a key name in AEW since the start. However, Cody Rhodes believes Darby Allin cannot be the face of AEW because of his risky lifestyle, which often leads to frequent injuries. This concern makes it difficult for Allin to consistently represent the company at the top level.

Earlier this year, Darby Allin had to cancel his planned Mount Everest climb in March after breaking his foot during a match against Jay White at Dynamite: Big Business. Despite this setback, Allin has expressed his determination to climb Mount Everest, stating he will do it no matter what.

In a previous interview with Josh Martinez, Darby Allin had a question for Cody Rhodes: Does Rhodes think Darby could be the face of All Elite Wrestling? When asked by Martinez in a new interview, Rhodes confidently said he believes Darby could absolutely take on that role. He explained that the top spot in AEW is more open than people realize and that Darby has the potential to claim it.

However, Rhodes stressed the importance of reliability, pointing out Darby’s dangerous lifestyle. He referred to Allin’s Mount Everest ambitions and incidents like being hit by a bus, calling them reckless. Rhodes made it clear that while Darby has the talent and confidence, staying healthy and avoiding risky situations is crucial if he wants to be the face of AEW.

Rhodes stated that being the top guy requires consistent dedication, comparing it to the demanding schedule of a superstar like John Cena. He summed it up by saying that while Darby Allin has everything it takes, his risky choices could hinder his ability to be the reliable figure AEW needs.

”So the answer is a guaranteed yes (I believe Darby Allin can be the face of AEW). But, don’t let Darby fool you. He was never insecure and he was never not confident. Darby is almost overconfident and that’s what we do. We talk smack, we wrestle each other. This is entertainment. I don’t mind it but sometimes your overconfidence is actually arrogance, when in his case, instead of it being arrogance, the experience that he’s had. Now with Sting. The experience he’s had seeing the different changes in the company, all of that. That is the experience that you need to lead you to where you see the clarity and you see the moment and go, hey, I can be — I hate using this terminology — but I can be the guy. Absolutely, 100 percent could potentially be the person. But, but, and here’s the but: That spot is available to far more people than we think, in every company. Everyone thinks it’s about, oh, it’s the politics, it’s about who you know. There’s a degree of that in everything, sure.

But it’s so much more fair than you think. If you look in the mirror and say, hey, I wanna be in John Cena’s spot. Look at John Cena’s schedule for the day. If you can do it, then perhaps you’re on the path to getting that spot. If you can do it every day, then perhaps you do get the spot. If you can do it every day plus one, then it’s yours and I think it’s a far more fair business than people think so 100 percent but there are other people that I would say that about as well. He certainly shouldn’t be remotely in doubt on whether can do that or not but also, the stupid climbing mountains and getting hit by buses, you can’t be the face of the company if you’re not relied upon, you know what I’m saying? You can’t wrestle anybody and you’re in a body cast. So, that’s dumb. But I say that with love.”

Unsurprisingly, Darby Allin even stated that he wants to go to space after conquering Mount Everest. Therefore, we will have to wait and see if Darby Allin will pay heed to Cody Rhodes’ criticism and actually ensure he stops taking necessary risks all the time, or else he may never become the face of AEW.
