Jey Uso had been through a long and arduous journey during his singles run in WWE but he finally won the Intercontinental Championship this week and it appears Jey Uso has been slammed for his over the top gimmick, especially after his title win.

On the September 23 episode of Monday Night RAW, Jey Uso got a chance to fight for the WWE Intercontinental Title. When all was said and done, Jey Uso finally captured the Intercontinental Championship on WWE RAW, marking his first singles title win since joining the main roster in May 2010.

While speaking on Drive-Thru, Jim Cornette talked about Jey Uso’s title win and criticized the fact, stating that it was a bad decision. He called Jey Uso’s character his least favorite among top stars in wrestling.

Cornette stated that while he has many dislikes in AEW, he officially considers Jey Uso his least favorite top guy gimmick. He expressed his dislike for Uso’s outfit, which features “Yeet” on his arms and flower petals on his legs, along with bright blue colors. Cornette also criticized Uso’s wrestling style, claiming it has declined and that his flashy moves feel off-time and difficult to work with.

“I’ve got a lot of least favorites in AEW but I’m now officially declaring Jey Uso is my least favorite top guy gimmick in wrestling. It’s all over but I hate it. I hate ‘Yeet.’ I hate that Ringling Brothers outfit he’s wearing with ‘Yeet’ on his arms and flower petals on his legs and fluorescent blue all over. I hate his work which has gone to hell because of his hot doggery, which is not only over the top but also it seems to me to be hard to work with because the timing of his hot doggery is just a step behind the beat. I don’t like any of this.”

Cornette believes that while Uso’s popularity has grown, especially due to his involvement in the Bloodline storyline, the title should not have been taken from Bron Breaker so soon. Cornette feels that breaking Braun’s momentum was unnecessary and that Jey’s victory doesn’t bring the same excitement as potential matches with other wrestlers like GUNTHER or Bron himself. He argues that the decision reflects poor booking choices in WWE, suggesting that it might not lead to compelling matches going forward.

“Uso is the new Intercontinental Champion, and Bron Breaker only held the title for about two months. I know he has a long way to go, and I’m sure they have plans for him, but everyone else seemed to love the finish while I did not share their enthusiasm.

Jay Uso is a significant example of modern WWE booking; he is that over. If he hadn’t been involved in the Bloodline storyline, his work, look, and promos might come off as just filler, like R-Truth’s comedic segments. There’s always a person who gets over with the audience, even if their work doesn’t quite match it, much like the Ultimate Warrior.

I don’t understand why they needed to beat Braun at that point. I wish they had given Jey another significant win without taking the title from Braun. Now, thinking about it, the Intercontinental title has transitioned from GUNTHER to Braun Breaker, where we could count on incredible matches with GUNTHER and solid performances from Braun. Now we have the title with Jey Uso.

Sami Zayn is a great worker as well, but when it comes to the newer talent, we have GUNTHER, who can really go, Braun, who can also deliver, and then there’s Jey. However, I don’t think we’ll be looking forward to those matches.”

Many fans believe Jey Uso’s Intercontinental Championship win was well-deserved and should have happened earlier. Now that he’s the champion, there’s excitement about how WWE will manage his reign and what will come next in his story. Fans are eager to see what will happen with Jey as champion moving forward, even if Jim Cornette doesn’t feel the same way.
