Sammy Guevara has been a regular presence on AEW television since his debut in 2019. Unfortunately, he has been involved in incidents resulting in injuries to his opponents. With that said, Guevara has now revealed the exorbitant amount of money he spent on his panda hat accessory.

During a conversation with DDP, Sammy Guevara shared insights into his early AEW career, including the reason behind wearing an outlandish panda head during his initial appearances. He explained that he wore it to stand out and make himself memorable to fans during events like Double or Nothing 2019 and the debut episode of AEW Dynamite.

Guevara noted that he wanted to do something unique, knowing there would be many great matches that night and that fans weren’t yet familiar with him. Since his favorite animal is a panda, he decided to wear a panda head.

Guevara found a custom-made one on Etsy and convinced the seller to rush the order, paying $2,500 for it, which was a significant investment for him at the time. Guevara eventually stopped using the panda head after joining The Inner Circle, led by Chris Jericho, on AEW Dynamite’s debut episode.

”It’s almost the same thing, I’m trying to think of ways that can stand out. Especially those first shows, first Double or Nothing and first ‘Dynamite,’ I know there’s going to be a lot of great matches, and I know people are not familiar with me, especially that time, in 2019.

‘So I’m like, I know I’m going to go out there and do a great match, but there’s going to be a lot of great matches tonight. I need something that’s going to stand out more. And my favorite animal is a panda, so I was like, ‘What if I wear a panda head,’ and then I looked on Etsy and there was a lady that made it, but I had to rush her — ’cause I thought about it, like, two, three weeks before the match. She was like, ‘I can’t do it in time.’ I’m like, ‘Name your price, let’s get it happening.’

How much do you think I paid for it? $2,500. I didn’t have a lot of money at the time. I’m investing in myself in hopes that I would stand out to hopefully get more opportunities to show what I’m about.”

Sammy Guevara also got a reputation for being a reckless worker for good reason, but he has matured a lot over the years. Regardless, Guevara’s risk ultimately paid off and he will always be glad for what he did.
