Jay Briscoe will forever be remembered as an iconic figure in tag team wrestling, admired for his extraordinary skills in the ring and his commitment to delivering unforgettable performances for fans. His passing has sent shockwaves through the wrestling world and now Matt Hardy has criticized Warner Bros. Discovery for not allowing The Briscoes to even appear on television before Jay Briscoe’s passing.
The ROH Hall of Famer was tragically involved in a fatal car accident on January 17th, 2023. The Delaware State Police confirmed that another driver crossed the center line and collided with his vehicle head-on.
WarnerBros Discovery would not even allow Mark Briscoe on AEW television, even after his brother Jay Briscoe passed away. Then WarnerMedia eventually changed their minds, and Tony Khan had a lot to do with that as part of Jay Briscoe’s tribute show.
While speaking on the Keepin’ It 100 podcast, Matt Hardy expressed frustration with Warner Bros Discovery for not permitting The Briscoes to appear on AEW television before Jay Briscoe’s passing. He noted that many fans deeply mourned Jay’s death and felt connected to him, especially after hearing about his efforts to make amends for past controversies.
Hardy stated that both Jay and Mark Briscoe were good people who worked hard to right their wrongs, and he found it strange that they were not allowed on TV until after Jay Broscoe’s death, which ultimately led to Mark Briscoe’s appearance.
“Jay Briscoe, a lot of people mourned heavily for him. I feel like people felt like they knew him more, you know? He was a guy with all these kids, and especially hearing the story—how he really wished he had apologized. He took all these steps to try and make things right after they were canceled for a while, the Briscoes. They were both good dudes, and they tried to make their wrongs right. It’s seriously so strange that they didn’t even get on TV—they couldn’t be on AEW TV until Jay Briscoe was gone. And that’s what led to Mark Briscoe, and I don’t know why they couldn’t have them on TV before. That just wasn’t right at all.”
Jay Briscoe had an immense passion for wrestling, and he was deeply cherished by his family, friends, and fans alike. More than year after his passing, the void he left behind continues to be felt profoundly, and that sentiment is unlikely to diminish anytime soon.
