Last year saw the integration of WWE and UFC into the TKO umbrella, marking a significant shift in the landscape of sports entertainment. While there are certainly UFC stars who want to join WWE, it appears even Gold medal boxer Delicious Orie is open to pursuing a career in WWE.

Delicious Orie, a gold medal boxer and 2024 Paris Olympian, attended the NXT event on September 24 and shared his experience on Instagram. Obviously, some fans were surprised to see him there as well.

Delicious Orie later spoke with Daily Star about how the opportunity came through WWE’s recruitment program. Orie initially thought the message from WWE Recruit was fake, but after consulting with his manager, he realized it was genuine.

Orie, who grew up watching wrestling after moving to the UK, fondly recalled watching stars like John Cena, The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Shawn Michaels, even imitating their moves with friends. Meeting Shawn Michaels and Booker T at the NXT event was a surreal experience for him, as they are legends he admired.

”It (message from WWE Recruit) was certainly something to lift my mood after the Olympics… I thought at first that it could be a fake account. But then I looked into it with my manager Sean O’Toole and we realized it was the real thing.

Like any kid, I got into wrestling when I was younger. I started watching it when I moved to the UK. I used to watch the likes of John Cena, The Undertaker while there was the odd appearance from the older legends like Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels. Me and my friends would do the moves. The usual putting the sofa cushions down for a bit of protection!

It’s crazy to meet him (Shawn Michaels). I also got to meet Booker T who is another wrestling legend as he works as a commentator for NXT.”

Delicious Orie made it clear that he is open to the idea of joining WWE and becoming a pro wrestler. Even then, he emphasized that his current focus remains on boxing, where he still sees significant potential for success. However, he acknowledges that wrestling could elevate his profile and help him achieve his goal of becoming a global star.

”It’s something we could think about (idea of joining WWE). I want to be an inspiration for people. I know wrestling would increase my profile so much and I want to be a global star. That’s the aim, to be known all over the world. Boxing is still something I believe I can be a huge success in.”

Even the likes of UFC star Paddy Pimblett are open to joining WWE one day. Nevertheless, only time will tell whether Delicious Orie will end up stepping foot inside a WWE ring and becoming a WWE Superstar.
