Since CM Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023, things have been much better for him this time around. He has a brand-new outlook on things and a fresh roster of talent to face as well. Naturally, he has his eye on certain big matches.
CM Punk recently shared some of the names he hopes to work with in WWE, and Damian Priest is right up there on top. He wants a memorable moment in Madison Square Garden with the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
During an appearance on The Hot Tag on 103.5 KISS FM, CM Punk mentioned several wrestlers he hopes to step into the ring with in the future. Punk noted that there are still interesting matchups to be had with veterans like Randy Orton, John Cena, and Rey Mysterio. He also mentioned potential matches with Chad Gable and Ludwig Kaiser, adding that he would like to give Damian Priest a main event at Madison Square Garden.
“It’s a fair mix of people that I’ve already been in the ring with and people I haven’t. Getting back in the ring with guys like Rey Mysterio or John Cena, Randy (Orton), Cody (Rhodes). There is fun stuff to do there. Then there is the crop of people that I’ve never been in the ring with. Chad Gable is one that really sticks out. I like watching (Ludwig) Kaiser. I think he’s pretty incredible. Gunther, obviously. It’s a fair mix of people I have existed with in the past and people I haven’t even been on-screen with. I did some dark matches with Dominik and I think I could do some pretty great television with him. Him and Liv are spectacular. Damian Priest is another one. I got a loose promise with him that me and him are going to main event the Garden. He was supposed to main event the Garden with a dark match, he had really bad flight trouble and didn’t make it. I owe him that. The answer is everybody.”
CM Punk’s claim that Damian Priest missed a chance to compete in a dark match main event due to flight issues when he was World Champion isn’t one that we will forget any time soon. Whenever those two square off in the ring, it’s bound to be something special.
Punk has been in his share of important matches at Madison Square Garden. At WWE Survivor Series in 2011, he defeated Alberto Del Rio to begin his 434-day reign as WWE Champion in the World’s Most Famous Arena. Only time will tell how many more big matches Punk has in the famous NYC venue.
CM Punk is set to battle Drew McIntyre in a Hell in a Cell match at Bad Blood on October 5. That premium live event at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena is set to be a big night of pro wrestling action. Ringside News will have full coverage of the show, and you can check out available seats at TicketMaster.
