The greatly anticipated Mr. McMahon documentary was released yesterday and fans all over the world have already watched it, making new judgments about Vince McMahon. Before the documentary dropped, McMahon released a statement about the series and now Tony Schiavone addressed what McMahon said.
Before the documentary premiered, Vince McMahon surprised fans with a statement on Twitter. He expressed his disappointment, saying the film “misses the mark” by mixing up his on-screen character, “Mr. McMahon,” with his real self. He criticized the producers for using editing tricks and leaving out important details, claiming it distorts the true story of his life and career.
“I don’t regret participating in this Netflix documentary. The producers had an opportunity to tell an objective story about my life and the incredible business I built, which were equally filled with excitement, drama, fun, and a fair amount of controversy and life lessons. Unfortunately, based on an early partial cut I’ve seen, this doc falls short and takes the predictable path of conflating the ‘Mr. McMahon’ character with my true self, Vince. The title and promos alone make that evident.
A lot has been misrepresented or left out entirely in an effort to leave viewers intentionally confused. The producers use typical editing tricks with out-of-context footage and dated soundbites to distort the viewers’ perception and support a deceptive narrative.”
While speaking on his What Happens When podcast, Tony Schiavone was asked about Vince McMahon’s statement. Schiavone mentions that if he were McMahon, he would just disappear and enjoy his money by buying a yacht in the Caribbean, staying away from the public eye.
Schiavone questions what McMahon is trying to achieve by trying to clear his name, which he thinks won’t work. Schiavone suggests that McMahon should just enjoy life and accept that he will have a tarnished reputation, saying that in the end, it doesn’t really matter.
“If I were Vince McMahon and had all that money, you know what I’d do? I would just completely disappear. I would take my money and go buy a yacht in the Caribbean and stay there. What are we doing here? It’s over. You won; you got all the money, you got all the fame, you had a great life. Now just relax, enjoy, and stay away from everything. That’s what I would do. I would completely disappear. I would fade away from public life forever. What’s he trying to accomplish? I don’t know what he’s trying to accomplish here. Is he trying to clear up his name, which is never gonna happen? Just enjoy life! Acknowledge that you’re going to have a tainted legacy forever and ever, amen. Who cares?”
Vince McMahon also took precautions in order to avoid controversy in his Netflix documentary, but he did make a lot of controversial remarks anyway. Regardless, we’ll have to see if McMahon will heed Tony Schiavone’s advice in the end.
