Taz is known for his success in ECW and WWE and has been part of AEW’s commentary team for few years. The iconic FTW Championship was also officially retired during Dynamite this week and now Taz has penned an emotional letter after that fact.

The FTW Championship was created by Taz during his time in ECW and has always been important in wrestling history, even though no major promotion officially recognizes it. From its start at an Elks Lodge in New York to its recent comeback, the title has represented a rebellious spirit.

During AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam on September 25th, HOOK successfully retained the FTW Championship against Roderick Strong. HOOK shared a touching moment with his opponent, Roderick Strong, as they hugged in the ring. The most emotional part came when HOOK joined Tony Schiavone at ringside and made a surprising announcement—he was retiring the FTW Championship.

HOOK then handed the title to his father, Taz, saying, “This is yours.” This gesture brought tears to Taz’s eyes, showing how moved he was by his son’s tribute.

Following the conclusion of AEW Dynamite, Taz took to Twitter and expressed his appreciation for everyone who has held the FTW Championship, including notable wrestlers like Sabu, Brian Cage, Ricky Starks, Chris Jericho, and his son, HOOK. He also extended his thanks to all the fans who have supported and enjoyed the championship throughout its history in ECW and during its revival in AEW.

”I would like to thank all of the men whom have held the FTW Championship…. @TheRealSabuECW @briancagegmsi @starkmanjones @boy_myth_legend @IAmJericho & @730hook And also any fan that has supported/enjoyed this championship during the ECW years or in modern day wrestling during the current AEW years…thank you.”

The FTW Championship had a wonderful legacy and fans feel the title being retired was the right call as they want HOOK to move onto bigger and better things, so we’ll have to see what’s next in store for HOOK.
