AEW is always looking ahead when it comes to their shows as they want to ensure that each and every episode is worthwhile, especially special events like Grand Slam. With that said, there is suspicion over the legitimacy of the paid attendance for Dynamite this week.

The September 25 AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam show had a ton of memorable moments and solid matches. This included Jon Moxley becoming the #1 contender for Bryan Danielson’s AEW World Championship, MVP making his shocking debut and other such moments.

According to WrestleTix, AEW sold around 2,669 tickets in the span of a couple of days for Grand Slam this week at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The final attendance for the show was 8,191 and it had a total setup for 8,477.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about AEW Grand Slam selling over 2,000 tickets within just a few days. He suggested that AEW might have given away a lot of complimentary tickets, expressing some skepticism about how many of the recent sales were actually paid for. He noted that while there were over 8,000 people in attendance, the sudden surge in ticket sales raised questions about the actual paid attendance.

“I don’t know how much paid was. When you get three thousand in the last couple of days, you know what I mean? That’s a lot. It was over eight thousand in the building though.”

Tony Khan was also in a celebratory mood following AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam. Nonetheless, while the event was definitely a memorable one, fans suspect how they were able to sell so many tickets in a matter of days and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
