Former AEW star Shawn Spears has opened up about his return to WWE, detailing his conversation with Triple H that paved the way for his comeback. After a five-year stint in All Elite Wrestling, Spears made his return to WWE in February 2024, and he couldn’t be happier with his decision.
In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Spears expressed his relief and satisfaction with where he is in his career. “Maybe it’s human nature to always wonder if you made certain right calls at certain things as opposed to sitting back and going, eh, I did okay. Some things, I am,” he said. He went on to confidently state, “I know for certain, I am in the right spot, right now… I can say wholeheartedly that I am in the right spot, right now in WWE and NXT, and I am very confident to say that I will retire and finish everything here.”
Spears emphasized his commitment, stating, “I don’t wanna go anywhere else… Everything that has happened in my career has led me to this exact spot, sitting with you right now talking about how good things just happen to work out. Life is good.”
Regarding his return to WWE, Spears revealed that he reached out to Triple H to inform him of his availability.“I immediately reached out to Hunter and just said… I’m free if there’s interest. The ball’s in your court kind of thing.” Triple H responded with, “What do you wanna do?” to which Spears expressed his desire to contribute. This led to a swift reconnection, ultimately culminating in his return to WWE.
Reflecting on his decision, Spears noted the allure of working with Shawn Michaels, saying, “I get to understand how he thinks? I get to work and see how he operates? … So it was kind of a no-brainer. Yeah, I jumped all over it.”
As for his role in NXT, Spears stated, “My responsibilities are more than just what you see on-camera.” He relishes the opportunity to guide young talent, understanding the challenges they face. “I know what a lot of young talent are going through… I’m able to kind of guide in the right way.”
Currently, Shawn Spears is involved in a storyline with Brooks Jensen on WWE NXT TV, as the brand prepares for its move to The CW Network with the October 1 episode.
With Spears back in WWE and taking on a mentoring role, fans are eager to see how his experience will shape the next generation of wrestlers in NXT.
