Malakai Black has been a prominent figure in AEW for over three years, waiting for his chance to shine as a singles competitor. He continues to be a key part of The House of Black, but it seems his AEW contract may be expiring sooner than anticipated.
After a brief hiatus due to a minor calf tear and knee hyperextension, Black returend last October, cementing his status as a key player within The House of Black faction and there’s no doubt fans believe he is an integral part of the AEW family.
According to Raj Giri, Malakai Black’s AEW contract might be ending sooner than previously thought. Giri took to Twitter and revealed that Tony Khan had mentioned in 2022 that Black was under contract for five years.
However, it is now believed that his deal is set to expire early next year. AEW is reportedly making efforts to re-sign him, but there is also significant interest from other promotions outside of AEW.
”Malakai Black’s #AEW contract is apparently expiring soon. I know Tony Khan had stated in 2022 that Black was under contract for 5 years, but the word I’m hearing is that it is actually up early next year and AEW is working to re-sign him. I’ve also heard that there is major interest in him outside of AEW.”
This is certainly a pressing situation for AEW as stars such as Ricky Starks and Daniel Garcia will likely leave the company soon and with Black potentially doing the same, the company will need to make extra efforts to re-sign Malakai Black. Therefore, we will have to wait and see whether Malakai Black will stick with AEW in the end.
