During the September 25 AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam special at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York, Jon Moxley beat Darby Allin to become the #1 contender for the AEW World Title.
After the match, AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson surprised everyone by attacking Jon Moxley, seeking payback for the brutal beating he suffered at AEW All Out 2024 earlier this month. Danielson attempted to choke Moxley with his tie, a move that didn’t shock fans.
On the June 7, 2010, episode of WWE Raw, Bryan Danielson famously choked ring announcer Justin Roberts with his tie during the debut of the Nexus. This controversial moment led to WWE firing Danielson, though he made a comeback at WWE SummerSlam later that year.
Justin Roberts, who now serves as a ring announcer for AEW, was at ringside during the attack. Afterwards, he took to Instagram to share a picture of Danielson choking Moxley, as he claimed that he felt Jon Moxley’s pain.
”I feel his pain 😔 #AEWDynamite”
Interestingly, Danielson and Roberts had previously recreated the infamous choking spot after AEW Dynamite went off the air on November 3, 2021. Regardless, some fans appreciated the callback to the spot during Dynamite this week, and that’s all that matters.
