Drew McIntyre has been on a career-defining run for months, with his rivalry with CM Punk becoming the central storyline on WWE television. Therefore it’s no surprise that CM Punk is now taking credit for McIntyre’s current rise in WWE.

In 2024, the rivalry between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk turned into one of WWE’s most exciting storylines. Even after Punk suffered a torn triceps during the Royal Rumble, the feud continued to thrive. Punk often interfered in McIntyre’s matches, causing him to lose the world title several times. The animosity between them intensified, culminating in a fierce match at WWE SummerSlam, followed by another major match at Bash in Berlin.

While speaking during a recent interview with 103.5 KISS FM, CM Punk was asked if Drew McIntyre is at his best right now. Punk agreed and said his own actions have helped McIntyre improve, likening it to how a rising tide lifts all boats.

Punk shared his mixed feelings about their rivalry, explaining that few experiences bring people closer, like love, dancing, or fighting. He admitted that he doesn’t like McIntyre and wants their feud to end, calling it an obsession that takes up a lot of his thoughts.

”God. I’m obviously the wrong guy to ask this question because I just wanna say something, you know, not flattering about him (Punk responded when asked if we’re seeing the best version of Drew McIntyre). I’m in a weird headspace about it because there’s not a lot of more intimate situations you can be in with a human being. I guess the P.G. way of saying it is there’s making love and I’m sure all the shippers out there on the internet are gonna go wild with that one. There’s dancing. You can dance, you’re super close with somebody and then there’s fighting and you know, I don’t think you really get to know anybody more, so to speak, unless you do one of those three things and the thing is that I absolutely don’t like Drew McIntyre.”

“I want this to be all over with because it’s literally like all I think about. I’m almost borderline obsessed with it now. So, it’s like an ugly situation. I don’t like who I have to be and who I have to become October 5th at Hell in a Cell. So, is this the best Drew McIntyre’s ever been? Well yeah, that’s what CM Punk does. High tide raises all ships. If you give less than your best, you drown. I eat you up. That’s the way it is.”

Drew McIntyre and CM Punk are set to clash in a Hell in a Cell match at the WWE Bad Blood event next month. As their rivalry heats up, fans anticipate that this third encounter will be extremely brutal. We’ll have to wait and see who comes out on top in the match that will definitely be a bloody affair.
