The House of Black is definitely one of the top factions in all of AEW right now, and they have achieved some success in the company. With that said, some wonder if the faction will ever split up, and now Buddy Matthews has addressed the same.
For the past few months, the contractual status of Buddy Matthews and Malakai Black made people wonder whether they would end up leaving AEW. However, Matthews signed a new contract with AEW in February of this year and Black signed a new deal as well.
Malakai Black, Brody King, Julia Hart, and Buddy Matthews, known as the House of Black, have made a significant impact in AEW by winning both the World Trios and TBS Championships since their formation at Double or Nothing 2022.
During a recent virtual signing for K & S WrestleFest, Matthews shared his thoughts on the group’s future. When asked where he sees himself in five years, he addressed the idea of the House of Black splitting up.
Matthews stated that the group doesn’t have to break apart to be successful individually. He believes they can remain supportive of each other while pursuing their own paths, whether that means Brody King focusing on singles competition or all of them exploring solo careers, as long as they stay under the House of Black umbrella.
”I think with the House of Black… we don’t necessarily have to go down the same path as every other group where it disbands in a bad way. Like, where we can still be under the same umbrella but go and do our own thing. I think we’re very supportive, and whether it’s Brody (King) doing singles or all of us doing singles, as long as we’re still under the same umbrella, I think that that’s something cool and unique.”
Matthews noted that their individual presentations are not entirely within their control, emphasizing that the House of Black consists of three unique individuals who can still work together while also branching out.
”That’s one thing that isn’t up to us, if that makes sense (Matthews said about his singular presentation while part of House of Black). The House of Black is three individuals. Whether the individuals are put together and whatnot, that’s out of our control.”
The House of Black were also accused of being troublemakers in AEW. Regardless, we will have to wait and see whether every member will branch out and become singles star in their own right, as Julia Hart has already shown that it is more than possible.
