AEW is gearing up for its highly anticipated Grand Slam: Australia event, set to take place on February 15, 2025, at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. However, early reports suggest that ticket sales are not meeting expectations, raising concerns about the event’s financial viability.

The announcement of the event came during the All In: London 2024 pay-per-view, following a report from The Sporting News about AEW’s plans to host a stadium show in Australia. Suncorp Stadium boasts a capacity of 52,000 for football events, but according to Wrestling Observer Radio, ticket sales have been underwhelming.

During a recent discussion on the show, Dave Meltzer noted the disappointing ticket sales, responding to Bryan Alvarez’s inquiry about the event’s status. Meltzer stated, “Not good,” emphasizing that reports from fans in Australia echoed this sentiment. Alvarez confirmed, “That’s what everyone in Australia said,” highlighting a general sense of skepticism regarding the event’s draw.

Meltzer elaborated on the historical context of stadium shows in wrestling, mentioning, “I know beforehand. They were right. I think sometimes people think, like, if you rent a stadium, they will come. But, historically in wrestling, a lot of stadium shows did not do well.”

While WrestleTix, a reliable source for tracking ticket sales, hasn’t provided specific estimates yet, there is hope that a strong card will boost interest as the event date approaches.

As AEW prepares for Grand Slam: Australia, the promotion will need to ramp up efforts to entice fans and fill the stadium. A compelling lineup and effective marketing could still turn the tide for ticket sales in the coming months.
