Vince McMahon shocked the pro wrestling world the day he retired from WWE. Many thought he would die in the chair running the Gorilla Position during a WWE event. That was also a thought he apparently had.

In June 2022, Vince McMahon was investigated for sexual misconduct and hush money allegations and retired as WWE CEO. In January 2023, he returned to the board of directors, later made a deal with Endeavor to merge WWE and UFC. In January 2024, he was accused of sexual assault and sex trafficking in a lawsuit by Janel Grant, and resigned as TKO Executive Chairman.

During the Netflix docuseries, Vince McMahon sat down for a lengthy interview. That included McMahon admitting that he could never see himself retiring from his former position.

Do I ever see myself retiring? No, I don’t ever see myself ever retiring. I never understood why people stop growing. When you stop growing, you die. Some people are like, ‘I want to retire one day.’ What are you gonna do when you retire? I have no sympathy for people like that. So…go die.”

Vince McMahon initially retired from WWE when the hush money scandal first broke, but then he made his return to the company. This moved was to user in a merger between WWE and UFC, but once Janel Grant’s lawsuit dropped that changed everything. Slim Jim pulled their sponsorship from the Royal Rumble event, and then Vince retired for good. WWE didn’t want a snowball of sponsors pulling out, so McMahon had to go at the urging of senior members of the company. He has since sold enough TKO stock where he can never execute another takeover of the board again.
