AEW has achieved a lot in professional wrestling, like selling out arenas and being the first real competition for WWE since WCW in the ’90s. However, the company has also had its share of problems, often making news for backstage drama and now Tony Khan has addressed such drama recently.
Some major incidents include fights such as the infamous “Brawl Out” and “Brawl In” incidents, which involved CM Punk at AEW’s All Out and All In events. Punk was also fired during a show in his hometown of Chicago. Additionally, there have been issues in the women’s division.
AEW has sometimes embraced this drama, even showing CCTV footage of the “Brawl In” fight between Punk and Jack Perry. While speaking on WFAN Daily, AEW President Tony Khan talked about these backstage problems.
Khan mentioned that each situation is different and that relationships in sports and entertainment can change. Khan pointed out that just because someone no longer works with the company doesn’t mean you don’t appreciate them. He stressed the importance of professionalism in wrestling and all areas of life.
“I think that it’s important to remember that every situation is its own unique thing, and that’s true in sports, and teams change, relationships change,” Khan said. “I’ve had a lot of great relationships with wrestlers and players in sports that have changed, whether people still play for your team or not doesn’t mean that you don’t still like them. That’s the most important nuanced thing to remember whether it’s wrestling, or football or entertainment or any walk of life, because we’re all professionals.”
AEW always has backstage drama one way or the other and fans simply hope that such incidents stop as they hamper the company’s growth, especially right before a major pay-per-view.
