Netflix has officially released its highly anticipated docuseries Mr. McMahon, chronicling the life and career of WWE icon Vince McMahon. The six-part series, featuring hour-long episodes, delves deep into McMahon’s impact on the wrestling industry and the controversies that have shaped his legacy.

Executive producer Bill Simmons and director Chris Smith are at the helm of the project. However, ahead of the release, McMahon made a rare public statement, claiming that “a lot has been misrepresented” in the docuseries, particularly regarding the ongoing lawsuit filed by Janel Grant. McMahon insists that Grant’s lawsuit stems from an affair he ended, while Grant’s lawyer, Ann Callis, has pushed back on those claims.

According to a report by Puck, McMahon was reportedly nervous after seeing early footage of the series and even attempted to buy it back from Netflix. TKO CEO Ari Emanuel is said to have lobbied Netflix on McMahon’s behalf, but the streaming giant moved forward with the release.

Interestingly, not everyone in the wrestling world wanted to be a part of the docuseries. WWE Hall of Famer Madusa revealed on her Paving The Way podcast that she declined an offer to participate.

“They contacted me. They wanted me in this thing so bad,” Madusa said. “They were like, ‘It’ll be cool. Vince is involved. He’s doing it.’ I’m like, ‘No.’ Something in my gut told me not to. We all have that natural instinct, and you’ve got to follow it. I’m so glad I had nothing to do with it.”

Madusa emphasized that she stood firm in her decision to stay out of the docuseries, even recalling the emails and conversations she had with producers at the time.

With Mr. McMahon now available on Netflix, viewers can form their own opinions on the portrayal of one of wrestling’s most influential figures. The controversy surrounding the series and McMahon’s legal battles have only added more intrigue to this already polarizing figure.
