The highly anticipated documentary Mr. McMahon has finally been released, and fans around the world are watching it to learn more about the controversial former WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon. However, Bruce Prichard believes that the early version of the documentary was intended to portray McMahon negatively, suggesting it could have been a “hit piece” on him.

The series has garnered significant attention from wrestling fans, as the production team was given rare access to interview the former WWE Chairman extensively. Despite McMahon’s limited interview history, many key aspects of his life have been captured in the series.

Many of the interviews for the Mr. McMahon documentary were recorded before the hush money and sexual misconduct allegations surfaced in June 2022. Bruce Prichard did his interview in January 2024, prior to the lawsuit filed by Janel Grant against WWE and Vince McMahon.

Prichard, after watching an early version of the documentary, expressed disappointment. He believed the early cut was unfairly negative, describing it as a “gotcha piece” designed to make McMahon look bad. Prichard felt the documentary lacked balance, saying it focused on portraying McMahon poorly rather than showing his full character, including the compassionate side.

Thought they sucked. I didn’t think it was balanced at all. I thought it was a gotcha piece. I thought it was portrayed as a gotcha piece. It was all about, ‘How can we make Vince look back? Let’s make him look shitty here, let’s make him look s**** there.’ I’m close to it. I live it. It’s personal to me.”

For example, Prichard shared that when his wife was diagnosed with cancer and given a four-year life expectancy, McMahon ensured she had the best care, which extended her life for 24 years. Prichard was critical of how the documentary chose to frame McMahon, suggesting it wasn’t a true reflection of his life and story.

“The human side. Look, Vince is a businessman. But also, the other side of Vince is, when my wife got cancer, Vince made sure she had the best care in the world. My wife was given a four-year life expectancy. Best-case scenario. That was 24 years ago. That was because Vince McMahon made sure she got the best care available. It wasn’t a documentary on Vince and Vince’s life and Vince’s story. It was, ‘See what an a****** Vince McMahon is. Let’s see how big of an a****** we can make him.’ If he were one, I would support that, but he’s not.”

We also reported that Vince McMahon had to be reminded about a lot of things while filming the documentary and that there were hours of unused footage. Regardless, the documentary has certainly got a lot of people talking and perhaps that was the intention in the end.
