Vince McMahon’s Netflix documentary, “Mr. McMahon,” set to premiere on September 25, 2024, is stirring up quite a bit of anticipation and controversy. This six-part series delves deep into the various controversies surrounding McMahon, a subject that has both intrigued and concerned fans and critics alike.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio shared insights into the mixed feelings behind the scenes at Netflix regarding the documentary. While the partnership was initially celebrated, some at Netflix were reportedly hesitant about associating with McMahon and WWE due to the potential for controversy.

According to Meltzer, these concerns were overshadowed by the excitement of securing the deal. However, the timing of a lawsuit involving McMahon, which was filed just after the deal’s announcement and shortly before McMahon stepped down, raised further questions about the partnership’s future.

“If this lawsuit had been filed a month earlier, once the deal was signed and they were all excited it was announced, they didn’t back off because Vince was gone,” Meltzer explained. “You gotta remember that the lawsuit’s filed, they signed the deal, it’s announced, a couple of days later the lawsuit was filed, and Vince was then gone. If Vince had stayed, would they have stayed with the deal? Who knows. But if they had known about this, especially if this was the old Vince McMahon company and this comes out before it, the face of the future of the industry would be different and I don’t know if Netflix would have gone for the deal.”

Additionally, there were reports that McMahon attempted to purchase the documentary with the intent to destroy it, highlighting the contentious nature of its content. Despite these challenges, the documentary will indeed be released, promising to offer an unfiltered look into the complicated legacy of one of wrestling’s most pivotal figures.

As the release date approaches, the documentary is set to potentially confirm many suspicions about McMahon’s conduct and business practices, which could further impact his already controversial reputation.
