CM Punk made a surprise appearance on the final episode of WWE NXT on the USA Network, ahead of NXT’s highly anticipated move to the CW Network.

On the September 24 episode, Punk was backstage chatting with Je’Von Evans when he was approached by Trick Williams, who will be challenging Ethan Page for the NXT Championship on October 1, the premiere episode on CW.

Punk, who will serve as the special guest referee for the championship match, made it clear that he intends to call the match right down the middle. He told Williams that while he knows Ethan Page might try to cheat, he’s not letting anyone — including Trick — get away with anything.

“I know he (Ethan Page) is gonna try to cheat. That’s why I’m the special guest referee. I’m not letting him cheat, I’m not letting you cheat – I’m not saying you’re gonna, that’s not your style, I know that – but I’m in the ring to make sure the best man to lead NXT into the CW future wins the match.”

“We know that could be you, you’ve done it before. I kind of hope it is you, but I’m not gonna lean that way. There will be no favors given. At the end of the night, if you’re not that guy, and it’s Ethan Page, I’ll be raising his hand. I’m not gonna play favorites, man. May the best man win.”

Punk’s presence as the referee adds a significant twist to this championship clash, and with no favoritism being shown, the match is shaping up to be a clean and fair showdown as NXT kicks off its new era on CW.
