Paul Wight Envisions AEW Retirement Similar to Sting’s In-Ring Farewell

Paul Wight returned to in-ring action on the November 15th episode of AEW Dynamite during the Like A Dragon Gaiden Street Fight but was written off AEW television after the match. Wight later teamed with Chris Jericho in January but has not wrestled since. He still hasn’t competed in the ring and made it clear he envisions retiring similar to how Sting retired earlier this year.

Paul Wight then confirmed that he had both of his knees and hips replaced and was training for a return. Naturally, fans wondered when the World’s Largest Athlete would compete again. In the meantime, he did return to ROH television in a new role as well.

In an interview with Fightful, Paul Wight shared his hopes for his final chapter in wrestling as he promoted AEW’s upcoming Grand Slam Australia event. He expressed a desire to retire similar to Sting, who enjoyed a series of standout matches before officially stepping away at Revolution 2024.

Wight mentioned he’d love to have a brief run, working with AEW’s rising stars and delivering memorable matches before stepping away. He added that after achieving that, he might move to New York to become a world-famous playwright.

“I kind of want to go out like Sting did, have a nice little run, have some great matches, work with some of this amazing young talent we have in AEW and then slide out. That goal accomplished and then I’ll move to New York and become a world famous playwright. That’s a joke because I can’t spell.”

We will have to wait and see Paul Wight will make his in-ring return and eventually have an in-ring sendoff similar to Sting, as fans feel that The World’s Largest Athlete more than deserves it.
