Vince McMahon, the former Chairman and CEO of WWE, has always been a polarizing figure in the wrestling industry, known for his controversial decisions and management style. However, despite his reputation, a former WWE star recently shared a different perspective about McMahon.

On January 25th, Janel Grant, a former WWE employee, filed a lawsuit against WWE, John Laurinaitis, and Vince McMahon. The lawsuit alleges McMahon’s involvement in sexual assault, emotional abuse, and sex trafficking, detailing incidents that took place between their initial meeting in March 2019 and March 2022.

Former WWE star Cherry, best known for managing Deuce ‘n Domino, recently opened up about her experience working with Vince McMahon during an interview on the Wrestling Then and Now podcast. Cherry, who spent nearly three years with WWE before her release in 2008, talked about her relationship with McMahon, describing him as “very sweet and nice,” which she found surprising given his reputation.

“Vince was, shockingly, very sweet and nice. So, I was a little nervous about approaching him. So, in legends, I mean, he’s a legend really, you know, to be able to have the guts to kinda knock on his door and go in and have a conversation, to have him so gracious too. And everybody’s like, ‘Oh, he’s such a d*ck. He’s so this, that, and the other.’ Not to me and not to other people.”

Cherry admitted feeling nervous about approaching McMahon but shared that when she did, he was gracious and welcoming. Despite the negative perceptions some have of McMahon, Cherry explained that he was kind to her, and she appreciated the opportunity to speak with him. While others might see him as “the bad guy,” Cherry saw a different side of the WWE Chairman, revealing his openness and willingness to give her his time, even if it was brief.

“I mean, to me, I felt like he had people that could be the bad guy. He didn’t have to be. And if he was, I would understand. He’s a billionaire. He has a huge mind for the business. But he was so gracious to allow me to talk to him and take his time. And, of course, I didn’t take too much of his time, but that was, you know.”

Even Alberto Del Rio defended Vince McMahon amid his trafficking allegations. Regardless, there are many people who have a negative perception of Vince McMahon and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
