Although Wade Barrett hasn’t stepped into the ring since 2016, he’s found success in a different role—serving as the lead color commentator for WWE Raw alongside Joe Tessitore. Barrett has been working as an announcer since 2020, but that hasn’t stopped speculation about a potential in-ring return.

Wrestling legend JBL, who made a similar transition from wrestler to commentator in 2006, recently shared his thoughts on Barrett’s future. During an appearance on Huge Pop, JBL was asked about the possibility of Barrett returning to wrestling, and he offered some encouraging advice.

“He’s still young. He was a good worker. Yeah, I think he probably will. If I were him, do it. You have all of your life to do commentary. You don’t have all your life to get into the ring. If I’m him, if you still have the urge, just try it. If it doesn’t work out, so what, go back to commentary. If it does, you’ve got something, and then go back to commentary,” JBL remarked.

While Barrett has yet to confirm any official plans for a comeback, he has teased fans by reacting to a WWE highlight video, sparking further speculation about his future in the squared circle.
