Drew McIntyre has been on a career-defining run for months, with his rivalry with CM Punk becoming the central storyline on WWE television. That’s why it comes as no surprise McIntyre threw shade at Punk by hitting the GTS after SmackDown this week.
In 2024, the rivalry between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk became one of WWE’s hottest storylines. Despite Punk suffering a torn triceps during the Royal Rumble, the feud didn’t lose momentum. Punk frequently meddled in McIntyre’s matches, costing him the world title on multiple occasions. The tension between them escalated, leading to a heated showdown at WWE SummerSlam, followed by another big match at Bash in Berlin.
Following the conclusion of the September 20 episode of SmackDown, Drew McIntyre squared off against Jey Uso in singles competition. Drew McIntyre would then fake a leg injury to try to gain the upper hand from Jey Uso but it wasn’t any use.
During the course of the match, fans started CM Punk chants towards McIntyre. Afterwards, McIntyre threw shade at CM Punk as he hit the GTS on Jey Uso and bragged to the crowd after the move. He tried to hit a Claymore but Uso countered it and then hit a spear on McIntyre for the victory.
Drew McIntyre and CM Punk will face each other in a Hell in a Cell match at the WWE Bad Blood event next month. Their rivalry has been getting more intense, so fans expect this third match to be very violent. We’ll have to wait and see who wins in the end.
