Samoa Joe reached the height of his career when he became the AEW World Champion. After dropping the title, he started a feud with Chris Jericho. Following that storyline, Joe was taken off AEW television for some time. In fact, he has been confirmed to appear in a very popular video game.
The next Yakuza game, titled Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, focuses on series favorite Goro Majima battling pirates, as revealed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Sega at the September 2024 RGG Summit.
The lengthy trailer showcased plenty of action and pirate-themed chaos, but one surprising detail was the inclusion of Samoa Joe. He appeared in the trailer as one of the game’s villains, adding an exciting twist to the upcoming release.
The Yakuza franchise has a history of including pro wrestlers in their games, as the likes of Kazuchika Okada, Tetsuya Naito, The Great Muta and many others have been in the games over the years, so Samoa Joe’s inclusion is a welcome one.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will be releasing on February 28th, 2025 on all modern consoles and PC. This isn’t Joe’s first venture into a video game as he was also King Shark in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Regardless, we’ll have to see how Samoa Joe’s appearance in the Yakuza game will be received by fans and critics alike.
