Jeff Hardy has made a career out of keeping fans on the edge of their seats, and one of the most memorable characters he created was Willow. Although there was a time in TNA Wrestling when Willow was the talk of the town, the character eventually faded into the background. There was an idea for Willow in WWE, but that never happened. However, with Hardy’s return to TNA Wrestling, his enigmatic alter ego may be making a reemergence sooner than expected.
Hardy has been using the Willow persona since the 1990s, when he first debuted it on the independent wrestling scene as Willow the Whisp. Since then, Hardy has expressed a desire to bring back the character on several occasions, and now it seems like we may be closer than ever to seeing Willow’s return.
Matt Hardy, Jeff’s brother, recently hinted at Willow’s comeback on an episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy. His words suggest that Willow’s return to TNA Wrestling might happen much sooner than anyone anticipated.
“Willow is something that I think we will see sooner rather than later in TNA because we have had some discussions about that. That’s something that Jeff is very passionate about. Much like his music, he’s very passionate about his creation of Willow the Whisp. That’s something that he really wished he could’ve done with Bray Wyatt, especially The Fiend.”
Willow made his TNA debut during a Lethal Lockdown match, joining MVP’s team and helping them defeat Team Dixie to take control of TNA’s operations. He was known for donning a black coat, a demonic mask, and twirling a black-and-white umbrella, a look that has a lot of mystique.
Things took a strange turn for Jeff Hardy and Willow in TNA Wrestling. On May 17, 2016, Hardy faced his own creation in a match, battling multiple versions of Willow in a surreal showdown. Willow was actually first conceived during Hardy’s time in Omega wrestling, so it is his property to use as he sees fit.
Now, as talks of Willow’s return intensify, fans are eagerly waiting to see how this enigmatic character will re-enter the spotlight. Obviously, a return of the Willow character would probably draw a lot of interest and likely sell a ton of t-shirts if they get good marketing behind it.
