Kenny Omega is still one of AEW’s top stars, but he’s not wrestling right now. The Cleaner is still focusing on his health after a scary diverticulitis flare-up that could have taken his life. He’s not cleared, but that doesn’t mean he’s not paying attention.

The former AEW World Champion recently took to social media to react to the news of Samoa Joe’s inclusion in SEGA’s upcoming game Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. In the trailer, unveiled during the RGG Summit this week, Samoa Joe is featured as a character, with the game’s release scheduled for February next year.

Omega responded to the trailer with a mix of humor and caution. He also revealed in the process that he’s still waiting for his medical clearance.

“Joe’s gonna kill you – but hopefully not me – I’m not medically cleared!”

Kenny Omega’s playful tone came amid a far more serious personal situation. This has been a wild ride for Omega, because he was going strong just before his forced hiatus. Originally scheduled to team up with Chris Jericho to compete for the AEW World Tag Team Championships, Omega had to step away from the ring after being diagnosed with diverticulitis—a severe and potentially life-threatening condition. His situation became even more concerning when Omega faced a medical emergency with a reported 50% chance of death due to complications from his illness.

Although surgery was essential for his recovery, the procedure was postponed, leading to an indefinite break from professional wrestling. Fans have been eagerly awaiting updates on Omega’s health, and while his return to in-ring action remains uncertain, his social media activity shows that he’s keeping his spirits up.

As Omega focuses on his recovery, his reaction to Samoa Joe’s video game role provides a light-hearted moment for fans while they anticipate both his health improvements and future in AEW. We will have to see how long it takes for The Cleaner to return, but AEW has certainly changed a lot since his sabbatical started.

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is set for release in February 2024, and fans can look forward to seeing Samoa Joe in the virtual world while awaiting updates on Omega’s eventual return to the squared circle. You can check out Omega’s tweet below.
